Cobleskill
In 1778, Cobleskill had twenty farm-owning families along Cobleskill Creek. It was part of the Schoharie area, important for supplying food for the Patriot war effort. The local defense was led by Captain Christian Brown and his militia. When rumors of Iroquois attacks surfaced in spring 1778, the militia sought extra help. Colonel Ichabod Alden from the Continental Army sent thirty to forty men from his 7th Massachusetts Regiment, led by Captain William Patrick, to support them.
